Solve the mystery of a haunted mansion and deal with the spirits that reside there #Point & click #Horror game #Puzzle game #Horror #Puzzle #Adventure
Old houses usually seem to attract the attention of ghosts and spirits, or at least that’s what always happens in horror movies and video games. Granted, they look pretty suspicious most of the time, especially if no one has lived there for a long time. As such, there are all sorts of legends and stories talking about ghosts and angry spirits that reside in creepy old houses.
CURSE is a first-person adventure game with point & click gameplay mechanics, in which you have to investigate a paranormal case involving ghosts. Although it looks like a classic adventure game at first glance, it turns out to be a tad different, especially when it comes to how you interact with the environment and how you approach each situation.
As for the story, you play the role of an investigator with the special ability of being able to sense the paranormal. This helps you see signs from the other side and obtain leads that normal people wouldn’t be able to detect. The job you take points you to the Atherton Manor, which has the infamous reputation of making dozens of people disappear over almost two centuries.
The gameplay is pretty classic for the genre, in the sense that all you have to do is move around and examine objects in order to solve puzzles, but there are a few differences. To begin with, the first-person perspective is not fixed like in most point & click titles, since you can look around using the mouse. On the other hand, everything else is much slower for some reason, and you are forced to sit and watch, sometimes multiple times in case you happen to make a wrong choice and you die.
As for the graphics, they are certainly nice than in your average indie game, especially since everything is in 3D and you do not have to deal with static backgrounds. Each room is nicely decorated with all sorts of objects to make it look lived in, which adds to the atmosphere. On top of that, the soundtrack is decent as well, especially the sound effects.
All things considered, CURSE is a pretty good game, but it’s not paced very well, which might annoy some players. Other than that, the atmosphere is engaging and the graphics are nice, so the overall experience might be worth getting over the lazy parts.
