Growth is very important when it comes to business, because it allows you to expand your customer base and deliver better services once you can afford it. It takes a lot of work to obtain a profit, on the other hand, and it also takes some restraint not to use those profits for something else. Video games are much simpler, thankfully, because there are usually no moral dilemmas involved.
Burger Kingdom is a match-three game with time management elements in which your goal is to take care of a burger shop and make sure your customers leave happy and ready to come back. The ultimate goal is to make as much money as possible and expand your shop with new furniture and better machinery, although you shouldn’t expect anything too complex either.
The main gameplay mechanics revolve around being able to match at least three of the right ingredients by going over them with your mouse. Each customer demands a certain number of items, and depending on how fast you are it’s possible to make quite the profit each round. There doesn’t seem to be any way to lose your progress, so there’s very little stress involved.
The game’s straightforward gameplay is fairly engaging at first, but it gets repetitive in a rush, given the fact that there are no combos and no special events to animate the experience. It doesn’t matter whether you match three or ten items at once, the result is the same, which is annoying to say the least. The time limit is the only thing that maintains a sense of tension, but then again it doesn’t matter that you do not manage to do any matches before the round ends anyway.
As far as the controls are concerned, the mouse is the only thing you need in order to play the game, so there are no issues in this regard. The slight delay after every match can be a tad annoying sometimes, but you get used to it after a while. Lastly, the graphics are not bad either, but the lack of background variety may have a negative effect on your mood.
In the end, Burger Kingdom is not a revolutionary game - not by a long shot -, but it can be pretty addictive over short periods of time. Thus, it’s worth a try if you want something light to occupy your afternoons with.
