Most video games are designed to be challenging in one way or another, because that’s what keeps players coming back for more. Whether it’s an RPG with tough battles and many important decisions to make or a match-three game with particularly difficult levels, every genre has something to offer. Naturally, some games are easier to design with this concept in mind.
Bunnyrama is a 2D puzzle game in which the goal is to pass each level by reaching the portal at the end, and you have to use giant bunnies as platforms in order to do so. The mechanics are simple and to the point, but it takes a bit of practice to get used to them, and the stages get more difficult later on as well. However, all it takes is a clear mind and some patience in order to overcome all the obstacles.
The story revolves around an old man who has to explore a magical forest, but he needs help in order to overcome the obstacles that await him. Thankfully, giant forest bunnies come to his rescue, so you can pick them up and stack them in order to reach higher platforms. It’s worth mentioning that your character cannot jump for some reason, so that’s a bit of a bummer.
Things get even tougher later on, since many other types of bunnies make an appearance, and each one of them has a specific role. It’s up to you to find the best solution to every level, but then again there’s usually only one valid solution. Thankfully, you can easily reset the whole stage with a simple press of a button, which comes in handy when you get stuck or do the wrong move and forfeit your chances.
The controls are fairly simple as well, given the fact that all you need to do is move and pick up the bunnies in order to carry them around. You can use a keyboard, a gamepad or even the mouse to do all this, so it’s definitely an accessible system. Speaking of which, the graphics are fairly simple too, which is a good thing, except that the levels can get a tad repetitive after a while.
In the end, Bunnyrama can be a bit too slow and annoying sometimes, not to mention repetitive, but the challenge might be worth the effort. The idea is pretty neat, even if the slow controls keep you from trying too many things at once.
