Escape the wrath of a mysterious killer and deal with the detectives investigating your case in this interactive puzzle game #Visual novel #Adventure game #Puzzle game #Adventure #Puzzle #Mystery
Point & click adventure games are still going strong to this day, even if the concept has been seriously changed and improved in the last few decades. Developers like Telltale have made sure that the genre did not lose its appeal, and everyone knows that a good story is what really counts at the end of the day. Hence, there’s still a constant stream of titles being released on a regular basis.
Broken Minds is a visual novel with point & click elements, in which you play the role of a woman pursued by some kind of killer trying to end her life. The game may feel like a regular visual novel at first, but it quickly becomes obvious that there is more to it than that. Thus, you are free to explore the environments to some degree, as well as interact with certain objects and characters along the way.
The story puts you in the role of Noa Karada, who is actively being stalked by a mysterious killer wearing a rabbit mask, who goes by the name of The Orphan. Noa asks for help from a private detective agency, but as it turns out, the detectives are not very trustworthy either. Thus, Noa creates even more problems for herself, so your role is to help her put an end to the whole madness.
As mentioned before, the game is not a straightforward visual novel, because you also get to move around between fixed points. This means that you are not entirely free to rotate the camera or walk as you please, but you can at least take a look at the environments from multiple angles. There’s also the fact that you have to solve actual puzzles in order to advance the story.
In terms of graphics, the pre-rendered backgrounds are very nice, and the character artwork is definitely unique and intriguing. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but the original art style should create a memorable atmosphere. The soundtrack blends nicely with the events taking place on the screen, and there are enough tracks to prevent the music from getting too repetitive.
Broken Minds is not a true visual novel, nor is it a hardcore point & click adventure game. However, the combination of genres is tasteful and enjoyable, so you should get a few hours of fun out of the game with ease.
