Breed - Single Player Demo
Defend the Earth from aliens in this squad-based first-person shooter that takes place in a grim future #First-person shooter #Squad-based shooter #Alien invader #FPS #Shooter #Squad
Colonizing other star systems is not yet on humanity’s top priorities list, since there’s plenty left to do on Earth still. However, once conditions start getting too harsh for people to live comfortably, we’d better have an exit plan, since we definitely need a planet in order to thrive. Space is quite big and filled with secrets, though, and it can hold some pretty nasty stuff out there, for all we know.
Breed is a first-person shooter in which you get to see how the world would look like if everything went bad at one point and the humankind had to pack their bags and leave. In fact, the game is squad-based and it allows you to control three or four space marines at once, as they try to eliminate the alien forces that have taken over the Earth and threaten to make humankind extinct.
The plot tells the story from the beginning, when people realized that they had to move and colonize other planets if they are to survive. Hence, they send a couple of gigantic carriers to start anew somewhere else, but they are attacked by a vicious race of alien monsters and every single colonist dies in the process. A war starts immediately after, which is won by the space marines after hundreds of battles and gruesome losses. However, as the few survivors come back to Earth to share the news, they find out that the planet has been invaded by the same aliens.
There are three main characters that are part of the team and can be controlled directly by you, although they are never named outside their roles: Heavy Gunner, Grunt and Sniper. They each have a different set of skills that can be of use during the fights, which is probably quite clear from their pseudonyms. The game allows you to quickly switch between them whenever you need to, although it is also possible to issue orders and have the rest follow your lead.
On the other hand, the gameplay is quite dull and not very innovative, which means that the entire thing quickly turns into a shooting gallery and it doesn’t really matter what tactics you employ. Moreover, the plot gets lost in translation over the course of the missions and you barely understand a thing once the entire thing is over, not to mention the fact that the A.I. is quite terrible and laughable as an enemy.
Breed may talk big and act like it’s grown and mature, but it is just as shallow as any other generic FPS out there, with nothing special to differentiate itself from the rest of the crowd. Hence, if you enjoy aimlessly shooting aliens for hours at end with no real purpose, then you can give the game a try, since the action is not all bad and the weapons are quite nice to wield.
