Block Gunner 2 Demo

Sandbox games are insanely popular nowadays, with plenty of examples that try to provide the players with huge worlds and all the freedom they could wish for. Hence, titles like Minecraft have managed to gain millions of fans over the years, while many others enjoyed comparable success as well. In essence, it is clear that modern gamers crave freedom and maybe graphics are not so important after all.

Block Gunner 2 is not exactly a sandbox game, and it barely features any kind of freedom. However, it tries to trick players into thinking that by providing them with the ability to destroy parts of the environment and use the pieces to build something else. Other than that, the game is just a basic platformer with horrible controls, awful graphics, and a variety of other inconveniences that make it difficult to enjoy yourself.

To begin with, the first thing that attracts your attention is the fact that the game can be played in co-op, which means that two players can use the same keyboard and navigate the levels together. While it may sound fun, the level design is too awful to allow that, because you get stuck in invisible stuff at every other step and you often have to try for several minutes to make a jump on a higher platform.

The game takes pride in the fact that you can use the guns to destroy the blocks that make up the game world. Obviously, only some of the blocks can be destroyed and you are not allowed to shoot straight down, which substantially reduces the amount of destruction you can do. However, you can also pick up some of these blocks and place them in certain spots in order to reach higher platforms, although that’s a lot of hard work.

As previously mentioned, the gameplay is riddled with bugs and inconveniences, all of which make the experience feel frustrating and annoying. However, the visual aspect is just as bad, which means that the environments are faded and uninteresting in most cases. Even the enemies are boring, and they certainly do not make any kind of sense whatsoever.

All things being equal, it is difficult to describe Block Gunner 2 as anything else than a failure. Everything about it is either bad or horrible, so not even the fact that you can play it in co-op mode makes any difference in the final product.
