BlobLand 2 Demo
Shoot asteroids and try to avoid being destroyed in this simple space shooter with arcade elements #Blob land #Arcade game #Space shooter #Blob #Land #Arcade
Simplicity has its own charm at times, but it’s not always the right element for every situation and you can also go overboard with it as well. Hence, while it’s definitely OK to make matters extraordinarily straightforward and easy, video game mechanics still need to respect some kind of standards, otherwise the result is something no one would enjoy playing.
BlobLand 2 is about as devoid of features and purpose as possible, even if the entire thing takes place in space, where trillions of stars and planets reside. The game is indeed someone’s amateur attempt at the subject, so it’s at least admirable to see developers trying to show their skills to the world. Even so, the game is objectively bad because it lacks almost any kind of entertainment factor.
To start off with, there’s barely any purpose to what you do, because you can only drive a spaceship forward and accelerate/decelerate whenever you feel like it. Asteroids come toward you every once in a while, so they need to be avoided in order to get a higher score. Other than that, there’s not much of anything else to see or do, which means that the entire thing gets repetitive after about two or three minutes.
In case you get tired of avoiding the asteroids, you can start destroying them by firing the ship’s guns. However, you can only fire a shot once every few seconds and the bullet moves incredibly slow, so you really have to calculate the asteroid’s trajectory beforehand. A few nukes are also available, but they certainly do not have the effect you might imagine. Instead, they just destroy everything they come in contact with in a straight line.
As previously mentioned, the graphics are rather poor and unimaginative, with planets like Jupiter, Earth, and Mars flashing by on the screen once every few seconds. Not only that, but the Earth’s texture even comes with a rectangular black background, which makes the visual chapter look that much more lazy and cheap.
Overall, BlobLand 2 may be the creation of a single man and not a professional designer at that, but even so, it doesn’t mean you have to sit through this just because someone worked hard on it. At the end of the day, it’s just a bad game that should have remained a private side project.
