Blitz Breaker is a retro twitch platformer in which your goal is to get to the portal at the end of the level, by avoiding all the traps and surviving the journey. You can only jump and move from side to side, but the main character also has the ability to dash in the desired direction and keep going until he reaches a wall. Hence, you have to react quickly and try to avoid dashing face first into a saw.

There is not much of a story to talk about, but such games rarely need a plot to show you a good time. All you need to know is that everything out there is trying to kill you, which should be a good enough reason to keep going. Along the way, it may also be possible to unlock some secrets and visit hidden areas, depending on how keen you are to risk your life.

In order for the game not to be annoying or too frustrating, the gameplay must work smoothly in every situation. Thankfully, there are no problems in this case, because everything is always the same. The controls are very responsive and accurate as well, although you may have to get used to them in the beginning. It’s not that difficult in theory, but once the levels get more complicated and traps clutter the environment, every mistake costs you.

As far as the visual quality is concerned, the game sports retro graphics, although that shouldn’t be too much of a problem. The artwork is great, and everything is clear enough not to confuse you. The game even looks great in fullscreen, which says a lot, considering the small resolution. Everything is well in the music department too, thanks to the cheerful chiptune that keeps you company.

All things considered, Blitz Breaker is indeed quite polished and ready to toy with your nerves. It may be difficult and frustrating sometimes, but we all love the awesome feeling that kicks in once that pesky level is finally completed.
