Blair Witch Volume 2: The Legend of Coffin Rock Demo

The Blair Witch movie series has quite the long history behind it, given the fact that it terrorized a few generations by now and it is still one of the most well-known horror franchises. Naturally, a game set in their universe should be able to convey at least a part of the same atmosphere and make you sleep with the lights on for a few nights.

Blair Witch Volume 2: The Legend of Coffin Rock is, as the name clearly implies, the second entry in the video game series and it does follow some events from the movie as well. The game is part of the survival-horror and it features a top-down perspective, which is a tad unusual, considering the circumstances and the purpose of the game.

The story concerns itself with a tale surrounding an American Civil War soldier, who gets shot during a fight and is about to die from his injuries. However, he is saved and taken into someone’s home to recover. Amnesia makes an appearance too, as well as visions and unexplained phenomena, which finally push the nameless soldier to try and figure out the strange events and find who or what’s behind them.

Because most of the sequences are actually flashbacks experienced by the soldier, the landscapes differ wildly as well. All you have to do is survive the perils and try to solve some very simple puzzles along the way, which kind of ruins the experience. In fact, the difficulty level is pretty hard to explain, considering the fact that the game is aimed toward the mature audience.

As far as the technical aspect is concerned, the game uses Nocturne’s graphics engine, which might make it look familiar to those who played the original. However, some modifications are present as well, although you definitely cannot take advantage of wide resolutions. The sound department is rather disappointing as well, which is quite the shame, considering the influence a good background noise can have on the overall atmosphere.

In the end, Blair Witch Volume 2: The Legend of Coffin Rock would only make sense to have if you have everything else from the franchise and you want to add it to the collection. Otherwise, the game is barely average in every aspect, so don’t expect too much from it.
