BattleGround 3D Demo

There are many old Nintendo titles that made history over the years, including the famous Super Mario franchise and a few other such great names. However, many other developers managed to make progress and create amazing video games, not only Nintendo. Among these, Battle City is still one of the most recognizable 8-bit era action games, with countless fan remakes over the years.

BattleGround 3D is an arcade action game featuring tanks and most of the gameplay elements from the old Battle City, including the top-down perspective and the differently-colored tanks. In essence, your main goal is to be the last man standing and destroy every enemy tank on the map, while also defending your base from taking too much damage.

However, things are not as simple as they might appear, starting with the map itself. Besides the fact that enemy tanks roam all over the place, there are also traps waiting for you, such as mines and aircraft strikes. The latter keep hassling you on a regular basis and you must make sure that you keep moving. On the other hand, you can also use it to your advantage and lure enemies into the traps.

Given the fact that the gameplay doesn’t change too much from map to map, except for the new enemies that greet you every time, it’s important for the game to keep you entertained. To achieve this, the campaign mode provides you with a variety of upgrades that can be applied to your tank, such as additional armor, damage, and a few missiles to wreak havoc when things get tricky.

As previously mentioned, the game uses an isometric perspective to render the battlefield, which was probably chosen to resemble the original Battle City a bit more. However, the actual graphics engine is quite nice and it features fully-3D technologies, which makes for some nice special effects. The tanks are also quite detailed, although you are usually too high up to make out the finer dents in their armor.

While BattleGround 3D is still a clone and there aren’t many original elements into its formula, the game is still tons of fun, especially thanks to all the shooting that usually goes around during the missions. As such, every fan of the original should feel right at home in this rendition as well.
