Avernum VI Demo

Isometric RPGs may be a thing of the past, but the top-down perspective is still considered by many to be their natural state. However, it has been repeatedly proven that the perspective and the graphics do not really matter anyway, as long as you can immerse yourself into the world you are presented with and the characters make you really believe that you are part of something truly great.

Avernum VI is actually the final part in the series and it aims to end tale in a memorable way, with as many epic fights and great encounters as possible. Throughout the franchise, the games have evolved in many aspects, including gameplay, story, and even graphics quality. Not only that, but the developers listened to the fans as well, in order to provide them with a more suitable experience.

In this final part, the entire world of Avernum is under threat, which means that you either get to be its savior, or you have to watch it collapse into nothing. You also get to go head-to-head with some of the most powerful enemies in the entire series, as well as meet a variety of interesting characters that can lend you a hand, or even make things harder for you.

Just like before, you are free to create the party as you choose at the beginning of your quest. There are only four characters you can customize, but they should be plenty for any situation, as long as you can control them properly. Beside the class and their abilities, it is also possible to customize their appearance, as well as change their names and make them feel as familiar as possible.

A lot of care went into the artistic side of the game, with beautiful artwork decorating the cutscenes and exquisite level design, most of the time. Pretty particle effects are also part of the equation, which are mostly visible during the fights, when spells start flying around the battlefield. The isometric perspective works as you might expect as well, since everything about it is as classic as possible.

Although Avernum VI comes with a full tutorial on how to play the game properly, it probably won’t be able to convince those who are not familiar with the genre very well. Veterans, on the other hand, should be able to recognize the potential in it and give it a try to see what the fuss is all about.
