Travel through a mystic land and save the world from evil in this exciting visual novel #Visual novel #Role-playing game #Interactive story #Novel #Role-play #Fantasy
Demons are usually integrated as villains in most fantasy stories out there, regardless of whether it’s a book, movie or video game. Some of them are highly intelligent as well, even if they almost always forget to consider the fact that someone would dare to challenge them, which is why bands of heroes manage to ruin plans that took centuries to be put in motion.
Auburn Sunset is an interactive visual novel in which you are more or less in charge of a mini party of characters on a quest, although it’s not the same like in an RPG. Instead, you are more of an observer, although some of the choices you make affect the action and can have various effects on the story. On the other hand, the plot as a whole is not very flexible, since the adventure is pretty linear.
The events revolve a girl by the name of Cisaya, who is running away from something called the Void Mark. She has a few companions in her adventure, such as a mercenary by the name of Nike Harbring, as well as a river otter that’s quite the troublemaker. Together they overcome a variety of obstacles along the way, and it’s a pretty standard fantasy flick.
The actual gameplay feels like a point & click game sometimes, especially since some scenes allow you to interact with objects and examine the area in detail. Granted, you shouldn’t expect the same level of complexity as you would in an actual adventure game, but it’s still better than mindlessly clicking through dialog sequences and making the occasional choice every now and again.
Most of the artwork is pretty striking as well, especially when it comes to backgrounds and character design. It may not be the most beautiful art out there, but it’s obvious that the designers have put some effort into it. Moreover, the entire dialog is voice acted, which is a show of force when you consider the fact that the development team is quite small and with a non-existent budget.
In the end, Auburn Sunset has all you could wish for if you are a fan of the genre, including adventure, nice characters, and a bit of romance. Thus, if you want to help the developers get the most out of their work, you can participate by voting for the game on Steam Greenlight.
