Astronaut: The Best Demo

There are plenty of tough jobs out there, but few of them require you to train for decades just to undertake a mission lasting a few months, or even just a couple of days. Astronauts go through insane periods of training, given the fact that they must deal with harsh conditions and be in charge of equipment worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

Astronaut: The Best is very difficult to explain into words, mainly because there’s nothing like it out there at the moment. It could be called a simulator of some kind, an interactive story, or even a role-playing game if you broaden the term a little bit. However, the main idea is that you have to train a team of nobodies to become astronauts, using the most ludicrous methods out there.

As such, you are given a team of individuals at the start of the game, and you must use a variety of methods to increase their abilities in order to be eligible for space duty. Not only that, but the individuals are randomly generated as well, which means that their skills and abilities are never the same either. The premise shows a lot of potential, but the presentation needs more work.

While it’s alright to include a lot of elements that do not necessarily make sense, the game itself should be easily playable, which is not exactly the case here. Even if this is merely a demo meant to show the main idea of the game, the interface is a huge annoyance, because there are barely any clear instructions on how to proceed and what you should be doing.

Thankfully, at least the graphic style is unique, even if it may not be everyone’s cup of tea. The characters look insane and quite trippy, as do the environments and all the other visual elements in there. Some of the scenes are a bit barren and boring, but things are probably going to be improved by the time the full version rolls out.

All things considered, Astronaut: The Best is one hell of an idea, especially in regards to gameplay and the artwork. Hence, if you want to see the game completed as quickly as possible you can back the Kickstarter project or vote for it on Steam Greenlight.
