Anubis And The Buried Bone Demo

The Egyptian civilization still has its mysteries even today, since archaeologists are finding new information on them on a regular basis. One of the most intriguing parts regarding their culture was the fascination with life beyond death, which is why they built such grand structures to house the bodies of their greatest rulers. However, they also made sure that no one enters these tombs uninvited.

Anubis And The Buried Bone is a retro platformer in which exploration and survival are your two main goals. Unlike most sidescrollers out there, this one is far less linear, which means that you can pick a direction and just try to get as far as possible. There are RPG elements in the mix as well, such as the fact that you can gain experience and collect a few items along the way.

The story is pretty foggy at the moment, in the sense that there’s not much information regarding the main character or his quest. However, it shouldn’t be that difficult to figure out that he needs to get out of whatever dungeon he finds himself in. The environment and the visual appearance of characters suggests that the theme of the game is inspired by the Egyptian culture.

Gameplay-wise, everything is pretty straightforward from a conceptual point of view. You do not have to do much, other than kill what comes close to you and jump from platform to platform. However, the enemies are quite unpredictable and strong, especially those that have special abilities. Hence, some teleport around the room and shoot projectiles from far away, while others charge for you the instance you are in their range of sight.

This makes the experience extremely difficult, or at least challenging enough for hardcore fans of the genre. On the other hand, the controls are a bit annoying as well, and it would seem like the main character needs a few milliseconds to think about stuff whenever he makes a jump. You can get used to this, but it’s very counterintuitive the first time around.

Even if Anubis And The Buried Bone has its quirks and annoyances, it can still be a great experience if you are in the mood for a retro platformer in the style of Castlevania. However, you should expect quite a few rage quits while you’re at it.
