And Then There Were None Demo
A mysterious string of murders on a secluded island is investigated by a curious detective #Adventure Game #Point and Click #Agatha Christie #Agatha #Adventure #Puzzle
Mystery and murder are two of Agatha Christie's most famous interests, as she made a living out of coming up with such scenarios for her detective novels. Her books are among the most recognizable in the world, especially since a lot of them got turned into movie adaptations. Many other sources took their inspiration for mysteries presented in the books, although not all of them admit it.
And Then There Were None is a point-and-click adventure game that follows the events of the book with the same name, although there are a few differences when it comes to the characters that are involved, the order of the events and the final conclusion of the story. The first major change is the main character's inclusion, who is played by you and who's not part of the original story. His name is Patrick Naracott and he gets the task to investigate the circumstances of the murder spree.
As the story progresses, the other characters start dying one by one, and, while thought to be accidental or suicides at first, they quickly turn out to be all murders. Hence, your job is to gather clues and talk to the other characters, in order to solve the mystery and avoid becoming one of the victim yourself. Naturally, there's a lot of clue gathering and dialogue involved, since that's how you gather information about certain subjects.
Since the game behaves as a classic adventure title, all you have to do in order to solve the puzzles is move around the mansion and click on different objects, depending on whether they can be used or not. Your inventory also comes in handy, since the picked up objects can be examined further, combined or disassembled in order to gain new items with unique functions.
Because most of the environment and the objects are static, the graphics may appear to be a bit old and dusty, especially in the case of character modeling and animation. On the other hand, most of your time is spent reading book excerpts, journal entries or maps, as well as trying to figure out how to use the items you find laying around. Thus, you do not get the time to admire the graphic quality, and, in all fairness, it does not really matter too much anyway.
In the end, And Then There Were None maintains the feeling and atmosphere of the old point-and-click games, mainly due to the fact that the puzzles are quite difficult to figure out and there's no shortage of dialogue or reading material.
