Fantasy worlds are a great way to escape reality and have a bit of alone time whenever you cannot deal with the daily stress anymore. Exploration can be very fun and rewarding when you have no clue about what you may find, and the characters are always outrageous and memorable. On the other hand, video games can be annoying in spite of the great story, because the gameplay is very important as well.
Amaranthine Voyage: Legacy of the Guardians is a hidden object adventure game in which you play the role of Eve Glover, a young girl who finds out that the fantastical worlds in her grandfather’s stories are actually real. Unfortunately, do not expect anything groundbreaking in the gameplay department, which is a bit of a bummer if you are fed up with repetitive hidden object scenes.
As such, the story starts when Eve goes to Arden, the magic-infused world full of interesting creatures and dreamy landscapes. Here she must unravel a handful of mysteries as well, while also solving puzzles and dealing with creatures that are not very friendly. In essence, your role resumes to observing each scene and clicking on the objects that can be used to move on to the next room.
The puzzles you stumble upon are not very original either, given the fact that most of them challenge you to find a pattern and apply it until the lock is open or the images align. This can get very repetitive after a while, especially since it’s also part of most other HOPAs out there. Granted, the setting is different, but that hardly makes any difference in this case.
Thankfully, at least the graphics are pleasant and quite dreamy, since you really do feel like you’ve stepped into another world from the first minutes of gameplay. Each scene is very detailed and nicely designed to inspire awe, especially when it comes to the artwork. Lastly, the music and the sound effects are not bad either, although the voice acting is not exactly top notch.
All things considered, Amaranthine Voyage: Legacy of the Guardians is a bit of a misstep in the series, because some of the previous episodes were quite good. Hence, this entry in the franchise is a bit too repetitive to be fun or memorable in any way. NOTE: This is a downloader for the game.
