Alpha Version.0 Demo

Platformers used to be a lot tougher back in the day, especially since games did not bother with fancy features like auto-save or cloud sync. Hence, each death truly hurt the players, and it made it that much more important that you give it your all in order to stay alive and avoid the traps. Granted, there are tough games nowadays as well, but you have to look harder in order to find them.

Alpha Version.0 is an action-platformer in the style of Mega Man, and it’s actually heavily inspired by the Capcom classic. However, the gameplay is somewhat different in certain regards, which means that you have to get used to new challenges and learn new tricks in order to survive. It’s still very much like Mega Man, on the other hand, so it will come easier if you have experience with the original franchise.

As the developers themselves put it, the story is nothing to write home about, since it’s as basic and as uninteresting as it gets. The whole goal of the developers was to work on the gameplay, which means that the game world and the characters are not interesting at all. Thus, all you need to know is that bad robots are the root of every problem, and it’s your job to stop them from ruining the world.

Although you can start playing right away with a generic-looking character, the game also allows you to create one of your own, which is pretty neat for a platformer. Not only that, but your weapons can be upgraded along the way as well, in order to increase your damage and make it easier to survive the battle with tougher enemies. On top of that, your character has a handful of special abilities and a shield against bullets as well.

Since the game is designed to help you remember the golden days of platformers, the graphics are retro as well, although they look pretty nice even so. The level design is engaging and quite colorful, and it actually feels like some kind of apocalyptic dystopia. Even the music goes well with the general mood of the game, which is always good news.

Alpha Version.0 is clearly not done yet, but the developers are working on it day in and day out. Hence, if you are a fan of retro platformers, this one seems to be as close to the source as possible.
