Destroy the enemy base in this first-person shooter with team-based tactics and randomly-generated maps #Multiplayer FPS #First-person shooter #Strategy shooter #Shooter #FPS #Strategy
There are not many ways developers can improve the multiplayer FPS genre, probably because there are so many of them on the market at any given time, some of which have huge studios behind them with millions of dollars ready to invest in their product. Even so, new ideas are always rising, especially since everyone has access to decent game development tools nowadays.
Alpha Decay is a first-person shooter with RTS elements, in which your goal is to work together with your teammates in order to gather resources and build a base, while also defending it from the enemy faction trying to do the same. On top of that, you can also craft your own weapons and upgrade them to fit your needs, which adds even more variety to the already complex gameplay.
Speaking of which, there’s a maximum of four players in each team, which is a bit of a bummer nowadays, but that doesn’t mean you get bored along the way. In fact, there are many things you can occupy your time with, such as scouting for resources that can be captured, or hunting for other players. The said resources are harvested using drones, which means that you can also make it your job to destroy enemy drones and hinder their progress.
It must be mentioned that Alpha Decay has a few issues as well, such as the fact that it feels rather awkward in the shooting department. Weapons do not seem to carry any weight, and the projectiles you fire are pretty devoid of feedback as well. Hence, this chapter needs more work, but then again there are many guns and upgrades you can build, which might make it tougher to introduce good balancing.
As for the graphics, the game actually looks pretty nice for an indie production, even if the environments can be rather bleak and empty. The vegetation can be pretty luscious and abundant sometimes, but there’s nothing else to catch your eye. Thankfully, at least the maps are randomly generated, which keeps boredom at bay.
When it’s all said and done, Alpha Decay is definitely an interesting concept that’s worth watching closely, but it also needs more work before it can be enjoyable over long periods of time. Thus, right now it’s a tad too empty and simple when it comes to level design and the actual shooting.
