Aliens vs. Predator - Marine Demo
The battle between the two alien races affect humanity as well, so the marines are sent to resolve the situation #Aliens vs. Predator #AvP 200 #First-person shooter #AvP #Alien #Predator
When it comes to first-person shooters, there are a few titles that got it right back in the day, although newer iteration in the same series did not have as much success. The Aliens vs. Predator started with a considerable advantage, however, given the fact that everyone was aware of the major Hollywood blockbuster on which the game was based.
In the demo at hand, you get to play a bit of the colonial marine campaign, which means that you fight against aliens and you must survive their attacks. However, you must also find a way to stop them once and for all, by killing each one you stumble into and neutralizing their entire hive. Obviously, it is much easier said than done, considering the fact that you cannot really see them in the dark and they are able to walk on the ceiling as well.
As a marine, your most precious defense mechanism are the weapons, because they are quite efficient when used properly. You also get to wield a lot of them, including shotguns and assault rifles, depending on how you are most comfortable. Armor and various other technologies work together to keep you alive as well, but you are not as mobile as the other two races.
In order to properly observe the differences between the three available factions, you can try out the multiplayer component, where they all meet together. As such, while the aliens might be quick and mobile, they are also quite weak and easy to kill, if you get to spot them. On the other hand, Marines may be the slowest, but their arsenal can get them out of many sticky situations, regardless of how immobile they might be.
Since the game was released quite a long time ago, it should come as no surprise that the graphics quality is nowhere near what you would consider pretty nowadays. However, a lot of work went into the environments at the time, not to mention effects like night vision, thermal vision, as well as a variety of other interesting things you can admire along the way.
Even if there are better games out there nowadays, Aliens vs. Predator still maintains its charm, especially thanks to the horror factor that weighs in heavily during the campaigns. It is also a good way to see how shooters were made back then, given the fact that this is by far one of the most successful of them.
