Some are meant to impress you with photorealistic graphics while others are there to make you awe in how cute the world can be. Alchemy Story is a game that falls into the cute and casual category, and it has the potential to keep your glued to your seat a good couple of hours.

The game presents itself in an extremely polished manner, and the graphics are a quite impressive indie title. You take on the role of Arabella, an apprentice alchemist working for the Professor, and you follow the charming story of a village struck by dark magic. The villagers have all turned into animals, and the Professor needs your help to revert them back into their human forms.

As Arabella, your job each day is to deliver three different potions, for which you will be paid in gold. The resources for your potions can be gathered from your surroundings, but at some point, you'll need to procure ingredients that don't appear naturally. That is where the gold you earn will come in handy, as you can use it to expand the usable land you have, create a garden, upgrade your chicken coop and more.

The essence of the game does not lie in the economic or technological aspect, but rather in the interactions you have with your environment. For example, you don't grow your garden by hoeing, but instead asking a friendly groundhog for help, and you don't just take whatever the chickens and cow produce. Instead, you have to befriend them and keep them happy.

While it doesn't have a well-defined end-goal, Alchemy Story Demo is indeed quite addictive in the sense that you'll only see how much time you spent on it after you've accidentally tested it for a few hours. This makes it great for the casual gamer who wants to burn a few Sunday hours without too much of a headache.
