Race on airbikes and negotiate tricky corners while avoiding obstacles in this futuristic racing game #Racing game #Arcade racing #Racing game #Racing #Race #Airbike
When the term racing is mentioned, people usually think of tuned cars or proper GT vehicles, although motorbikes are also up there with the best. Sci-fi racing games are pretty rare nowadays, given the fact that people crave for realism or arcade games that allow them to tune their cars using fancy bumpers and spoilers. However, that’s not to say you cannot have fun with a different kind of game.
Acro Storm is an arcade racing game in which you get to ride floating bikes and battle the other racers at the same time, which is about as much fun as it sounds. The total disregard for realism is a good choice in this case, especially when it comes to handling or vehicle damage, because there’s no other way the formula would work. On the other hand, the game is a lot more entertaining with other players, since it can be pretty repetitive if you play it alone.
To begin with, there are three different bike categories, depending on whether you want something faster, more resistant to damage, or some kind of compromise between the two. The controls differ a little bit as well, but you can pretty much use the same approach with any of them. Moreover, the greatest battle is over the power-ups spread around the track, not to mention the actual weapons.
Since you are constantly under attack, you have to react quickly and deliver the right kind of counterattack in order to stay in the race. Each weapon has unique properties, but it depends on the situation, because pure damage is not always the best solution. On top of that, you also have to keep an eye on the track to avoid traps, as well as use a few bike abilities to evade incoming attacks.
Lastly, the graphics are actually very nice, although they snag a bit even on decent computers. Even if the environments and the bikes are pretty detailed, the quality is not high enough to cause this kind of performance problems. Granted, the game is still in early access, so it has plenty of time to sort things out and improve the experience for everyone.
Acro Storm has some work to do in regards to performance and gameplay smoothness, but it’s definitely on the right path. Thus, if you want something exciting and fast, this can easily occupy a few hours of your time.
