A Magical High School Girl Demo
Create your own magic spells and use them on enemies in this top-down role-playing game #Adventure game #Top-down RPG #Magic crafting #Magic #Crafting #RPG
Roguelike RPGs are quite popular even today, in spite of the fact that they are pretty much a relic of the past at this point. Modern developers try to create better stories and more cohesive game worlds instead of random combat encounters, but the genre still has its surprises. Hence, there’s certainly enough fun a roguelike to be worth the repetitive gameplay.
A Magical High School Girl is a top-down roguelike RPG that provides you with the chance to explore a unique world and do with it as you please. The main selling point is the fact that you can use elements and potions to create your own magic spells, which is pretty interesting. However, the system needs to be pretty complex in order to provide the players with enough options.
The story revolves around a highschool girl who also happens to be a mage, and she has the ability to create her own magic. It’s not exactly clear what her goals are, but the game allows you to explore the world as you see fit, at least as long as you can survive. Speaking of which, you are also free to name the magic you manage to create, which is pretty fun and engaging.
The game is not out yet, but it certainly looks like it’s not even halfway done. In essence, the maps are extremely repetitive and barren, sporting boring corridors with nothing but the occasional enemy. Granted, maybe the later levels are better, but that’s certainly no way to greet players and get them to keep playing for longer than a few minutes.
The graphics are nothing out of the ordinary either, although they seem designed to appear retro. Obviously, it’s difficult to evaluate them properly when there’s nothing to see, which is where the empty level design says its piece again. They can certainly be put to good use, on the other hand, at least as long as the developer comes up with some interesting ideas.
In the end, the magic crafting is a pretty sweet idea, but A Magical High School Girl loses its appeal after the first few minutes of gameplay, and that’s not good for a roguelike. Hence, a lot more work is needed until the game is worth your time.
