Keep the city safe in this 2D action game that features randomly-generated missions and nice pixel graphics #Action game #Retro shooter #2D shooter #Action #Shooter #Platformer
Being a police officer has gotten tougher and tougher in the last few decades, mainly because criminals have access to better tools and weapons nowadays. However, it’s bound to get even worse, at least if people don’t stop committing crimes anytime soon. Hence, the cops of the future might have to use a lot more force in order to survive and do their job.
miniLAW is a 2D action game in which you play the role of a future cop trying to keep the streets safe from all sorts of criminals. You get to use a variety of weapons in your missions, both lethal and nonlethal, which makes every intervention that much more exciting. On top of it all, each mission is randomly generated while you’re cruising around town, so the experience should feel different every time.
Speaking of which, a typical mission involves a variety of dangerous tasks, the most important of which is stopping the bad guys, obviously. However, besides shooting or bludgeoning the scum of the city, you also have to rescue hostages or retrieve stolen goods. It’s a pretty wonderful formula, because it keeps you from getting bored.
The police department rewards you with various items for being able to keep the streets safe, although most of them need to be purchased using the points you manage to gain along the way. Whether it’s ammunition, better weapons or an upgraded armor, everything comes in handy in the fight against crime. There’s also a defibrillator that allows you to bring the cop back to life a couple of times.
As far as the graphics are concerned, everything looks pretty much as you would expect from a retro platformer, and the illusion is actually quite convincing. There are all sorts of special effects, such as screen shakes and various glitches that make the experience feel very convincing. The music is nice as well, as are most of the sound effects.
When it’s all said and done, miniLAW is definitely on the right track, but it still has a few problems when it comes to controls and various bugs. Hence, once those are sorted out and a bit more content is added, the game might even have a shot at a few awards.
