Tank Wars

Those of you that grew up in the 80s and 90s surely know what nostalgia looks and feels like, and there are some developers nowadays that choose to pull on those strings instead of trying to create AAA titles using the latest gaming technology. Admittedly, they may attempt to do this due to a limited budget, but one cannot deny the fact that whatever they are trying to do, it works. Such is the case of Tank Wars, a 2D Tank shooter game that plays remarkably similarly to old arcade shooters.

The game tries to capitalize on the oldie feel of games by bringing to you a neatly designed 2D arcade-style shooter that is neatly polished to appeal to the younger generation as well. The play style is similar to that of other famous titles of the 90s and early 2000s, such as Bomberman, with the only difference being that instead of laying bombs and waiting for some unsuspecting foe to step into the blast radius, you shoot from afar. Another good example of how the two titles are similar is how the maps are laden with obstacles, some of which are destructible and some of which aren't.

One shot is all it takes to take an enemy out of commission, but unfortunately, this also applies to you as well, so you need to be careful, especially in later levels where obstacles are few, and the enemies are plenty. More so, the game uses the old-fashioned "X-amount of lives" system, so once you run out of all of your lives, it's game over, and you have to restart the level from the very beginning.

Tank Wars is undoubtedly fun, and it's worth giving a shot, especially if you are bored or have someone over and want to share a keyboard.
