Worm.is: The Game

Snake is probably one of the most popular video games in the world, even now, decades after it was released. The gameplay is as simple as it can get, but the replayability is through the roof, regardless of whether you try the classic version or something new. However, there are always new ways to improve old ideas, which is what the game at hand tries to do.

Worm.is: The Game is a multiplayer Snake game in which your goal is simple: eat to get bigger and avoid being killed by the other players. In case it sounds familiar, that’s because the same idea was used in Slither.io a while back. Granted, there’s nothing wrong with doing the same thing all over again, at least if you add a bit of originality to the mix and make the experience feel somewhat different.

Alas, this is not exactly the case at hand, since Worm.is: The Game is pretty much the same deal as the game it copies. Thus, you have to eat colorful items, avoid the viruses and try to cut-off other players in order to destroy them. There are, however, plenty of inconveniences that make it difficult to enjoy yourself, such as the awful collision system, or the slow and imprecise controls.

Each colorful bit you eat makes you a little bit bigger, and you can level up by eating enough. However, you need to watch out for the other players, because a single wrong touch instantly kills you, thus ruining your entire session. You can use your special ability and sprint in order to escape some situations, but most of the time it’s up to the weird collision system to decide your fate.

As for the graphics, everything is as basic as it gets, except maybe the various skins you can purchase for your snake. They still look incredibly amateurish, but at least you get away from the boring solid colors that dominate the landscape in general. Speaking of which, there are microtransactions involved, just in case you have too much cash on your hands.

In the end, Worm.is: The Game does not offer anything new if you’ve already enjoyed Slither.io. The controls are too imprecise, the graphics are poor, and the gameplay is not smooth enough to make the experience enjoyable.
