Wild Metal

Wild Metal is a Rockstar provided freebie in which you control one of several futuristic tanks and explore alien planets to recover a number of scattered power cores. It’s a 2000 game so you should expect severely flat graphics and gameplay that won’t impress.

Controlling a tank from the future generally means that it’s one seriously advanced piece of tech with impressive firepower but in Wild Metal that’s not really the case. Exploring the planet you’re on will be a real challenge since the controls are tough to get acquainted with, and the tanks barely move at times when it comes to some small hills.

The tanks move kind of slow even on flat terrain and seeing that makes you wonder if these aren’t in fact rovers. Throughout the entire game, you don’t really feel like you’re in charge of a powerful war machine.

The atmosphere to Wild Metal is flat, there’s not upbeat music to keep you entertained and even tank on tank combat is very rare. Most times you’ll run into an enemy machine when you’re near one of the cores that have to be collected and since there are eight to gather, you know how much action you’re going to get.

Your only dose of fun with it will be if you’re into old school games. From that point of view, Wild Metal is a decent thing to play because it does have its particular brand of sci-fi charm.

All-in-all, Wild Metal is a nice game considering how old it is and what gameplay consists of. If you don’t mind the tedious tasks of climbing short hills and shooting a tank now and again, then Wild Metal might make your day a bit better.
