Voidcrab
Help a mechanical crab reach his destination and survive the journey there in this arcade platformer #Arcade platformer #Retro platformer #Adventure game #Platformer #Retro #Adventure
Sometimes even the simplest things can entertain us for hours on end, a concept that’s especially true for video games. Challenging gameplay mechanics have the potential to distract gamers from everything else, in spite of the fact that the rest of the game is not up to standards. Hence, it’s only natural that platformers are among the simplest and most addictive game genres out there.
Voidcrab is a 2D platformer featuring a mechanical crab in the main role, a crab that must go on a journey across a variety of dangerous locations and survive the perils that await it. Everything about the game has been kept as simple as possible, including the controls, the level design and the graphics, but that doesn’t mean you cannot have tons of fun with it if you are a platformer enthusiast.
The crab is not that special at first, but you can unlock extra abilities along the way that allow you to perform feats like the double-jump, which comes in handy when the platforms you want to reach are too high up. The difficulty level increases as well, since the stages become much trickier later on and enemies start to make an appearance after a certain point.
One of the first things you notice about Voidcrab after you start playing is just how simple the level design is. There are only solid colors around you, yet they are used in such a way as to be easy on the eyes, which is the sign of a talented designer. The mazes can be pretty tricky as well, especially if you do not pay attention to the subtle hints provided by the game along the way.
Everything else can be figured out in a matter of seconds as well, including the controls. There are only a handful of buttons you need in order to move around and jump, which are the most important actions anyway. Granted, the game could use a relaxing soundtrack to keep boredom at bay, but then again there’s not an awful lot of content anyway.
Despite its simplicity, Voidcrab is more than capable to keep you engaged from start to finish, especially if you enjoy tough platformers and retro graphics. However, it could certainly use a bit more content.
