Undertale: Kissy Cutie
Make peace between humans and monsters by convincing people that the monsters are not evil #Visual novel #Interactive story #Role-playing game #Undertale #Novel #Role-play
Undertale was a retro indie game that gained a lot of traction back when it was released, probably because it featured a unique story and a very enjoyable set of gameplay mechanics. The fact that you could use love instead of brute force to win battles was definitely a nice addition, and the combat mini-games were both challenging and fun at the same time.
Undertale: Kissy Cutie is a visual novel with an interactive story, in which the goal is to make peace between monsters and humans using a very unusual approach. Although the genre is mostly known for being quite underwhelming in terms of gameplay mechanics, Undertale: Kissy Cutie allows you to make many choices along the way, which should make the experience a lot more exciting.
The story revolves around Frisk, who takes on the role of the ambassador of peace in an attempt to make humans and monsters come to an agreement. Since this is not the first time someone pursues peace between the two factions, a new plan is required to gain everyone’s attention. Hence, he decides that Sona, the mayor’s daughter, has to live with a monster for a few weeks and prove that they are not vicious killing machines.
Although the whole thing feels like a dating sim most of the time, your choices do not encourage a romantic relationship. Instead, the two characters must become friends by the end, although it obviously depends on their attitude toward each other. The demo only features the introduction anyway, so don’t expect any kind of closure at the moment.
As far as the graphics are concerned, the game seems to oscillate between to different visual styles, one of which is much cleaner and colorful than the other. However, the character design is definitely enjoyable, even if most of the backgrounds are a bit too dull and uninteresting in the demo. More work is going into the game at the moment, however, so the final version is going to be much more polished.
In the end, Undertale: Kissy Cutie seems to have all the right elements to provide you with a memorable story, although the demo is a bit too short to make that clear. Hence, it’s worth keeping an eye on the project as it evolves.
