Two Interviewees
A woman and a man take the same interview for a job and provide the same answer to every question, yet only one of them gets the job #Job interview #Visual novel #Short story #Interview #Job #Interviewee
Job interviews are pretty stressful for anyone, but they can get overwhelming and frustrating when discrimination enters the equation. Moreover, the sad part is that some forms of discrimination target things like gender or race, which are out of everyone’s control. Hence, it’s unfair to be discriminated against, regardless of reason, yet it’s still a pretty big problem in the modern society.
Two Interviewees is a simple game that aims to raise awareness about the discrimination against females when it comes to how they are perceived by potential employers. In short, you get to watch a job interview with both characters at the same time, and they also provide the same answer to every question. However, only one of them is going to get the job in the end.
Although the answers both characters give are exactly the same, they are perceived differently by the employer, which is the whole point of the game. Hence, he might not see anything weird about the man wanting a family in a few years, but he’ll quickly make a “pregnancy alert” note when the woman says the same thing. The same goes for physical appearance, since the woman loses points if she chooses not to wear any jewelry.
It’s worth noting that the male can also get disqualified from the interview before the female does, but only if he displays a total lack of skill on the subject. However, there doesn’t seem to be a way for the woman to get the job, no matter what answers you choose. Obviously, this is a bit of an exaggeration, but the game is designed to make a point about this particular situation, not about every job interview out there.
As far as the technical side of things is concerned, the game is obviously very basic, although the artwork is quite striking. There’s very little detail, since both characters are only meant to be symbolic, not actual persons. However, the colors are pretty nice, and there is a short ending where you get to see a bit more scenery.
In the end, Two Interviewees is obviously not perfect, but its intentions are good. There’s still discrimination against women out there, and it’s a good thing to make people aware of it, otherwise it gets ignored.
