Tremulous

Tremulous is a game that was created to bring together elements from first-person shooters and combine them with real-time strategy features. The game is built to offer an action packed multiplayer experience in which you will either be an alien or part of the human force.

The main goal of the game, regardless of the side you’re on, is to eliminate the other team and destroy its base. To do so, you must rely on a solid offensive as well as defensive strategy because getting kills is the most important thing in the game.

Once your team reaches a certain kill threshold, you have the possibility to upgrade your weapons or evolve your alien into a more powerful class. With that in mind, you’re prone to be less of a kamikaze and think things through because every kill you offer the enemy will make them stranger.

Tremulous’s game concept is somewhat original, or at least it was when it first came out a couple of years ago. Having an alien race battle it out with human soldiers has been done before but not like this.

Both aliens and humans get to build a base, set up defensive perimeters and as the game progresses, you purchase weapon upgrades or evolve into something more scarier. Each race has its advantages and disadvantages during gameplay but things tend to balance themselves out since it is a team game.

From a visual point of view, Tremulous doesn’t offer too much. There are no out of this world physics or an elaborate particle system. Character animations are rather rigid and you won’t even get to see your little alien attack. You hear a sound but it’s like it’s screaming and staring at the human soldier until it dies.

To wrap things up, Tremulous is a nice game to play with your friends but it might not rise up to expectations set by more recent similar games.
