Timruk
Follow the story of a boy trapped in an illustration and maybe find a way to finally escape the curse #Adventure game #Puzzle game #Kayamgadh myth #Adventure #Puzzle #Story
Ancient stories always seem to involve some kind of magic or impossible creature, which is why it is so difficult to get accurate historical reports from documents written in the same period. However, one can still find meaning and truth behind dragons and magic spells, because most exaggerated tales are actually symbolic. Thus, modern historians can more or less understand what truly happened.
Timruk is an artistic game that doesn’t appear to be very interactive at first, but more of a story you are meant to sit and listen. You do get to move around and accomplish a few things, on the other hand, although it may prove rather difficult to understand your goal. In short, this is actually a part of a larger video game currently in development, and it tells a story about a surreal colonial India.
As it happens, everything starts when a boy by the name of Timruk is hidden by his father in an illustration, in order to protect him from an angry god. However, the said god curses the father to paint the same illustration over and over again, but to never find a way to free his son from the curse. Although you somewhat play the role of the son in question, you are also an outside observer, meaning that you get to read the story and look at various illustration.
Some scenes allow you to move around and interact with certain objects, although this happens quite rarely. In fact, it would seem like you are really trapped, because the story restarts over and over again with no end in sight. It would appear that it may be possible to find a solution along the way, but it is definitely not an easy task to figure everything out.
Lastly, the artwork is the true strong point of the game, because everything looks magnificent. Starting from the weird environments plastered with curious textures and floral arrangements, all the way to the illustrations that accompany the story, every bit of artwork is memorable and enjoyable. The soundtrack features calming throat singing tunes, which goes exceptionally well with the general atmosphere.
Timruk is nothing if not original, which is why it sticks with you for a long time after playing it. It may be a bit too conceptual for some people, but as long as you take it easy and try to figure things out at your own pace, the game has plenty of surprises in store.
