The Ultimate Theory of Gravity
Jump from platform to platform while controlling gravity in this arcade platformer featuring Stephen Hawking as the main character #Arcade platformer #Physics game #Stephen hawking #Platformer #Arcade #Gravity
Our understanding of physics has come a long way over the centuries, and even if it’s obviously not yet complete to this today, we know enough to send probes to other planets and devise things like quantum computers and huge particle colliders. On the other hand, it’s pretty funny to think that in spite of all this we still don’t know exactly how gravity fits in with the rest of our theories, although there are plenty of ideas out there.
The Ultimate Theory of Gravity is a 3D platformer that takes place in space and allows you to play as Stephen Hawking. It’s not a very fast-paced platformer, but then again you have to pay close attention to where you are going, because the objects are pretty far apart and there’s nothing in between. It’s also important that you make use of the gravity controller.
The gameplay revolves around your ability to understand how to use gravity to your advantage, because you are allowed to increase or decrease its pull. As such, longer jumps require a weaker gravity in order for your character to make it, but it’s important to land in the right spot as well, so you can’t use low gravity all the time. Hence, you must maintain a balance and learn how to anticipate inertia.
The bad part is that you have to make due with a very repetitive level design, given the fact that almost every stage looks and feels the same. Obviously, the challenge increases over time, given the fact that you have to handle more platforms and greater distances, but the actual environment remains the same. It’s a bit annoying to say the least, but then again the game was designed in very short period of time.
As for the graphics, the game uses Unreal Engine 4 to render everything, so it certainly has enough power and technology behind it to dazzle you with special effects. Naturally, this is a bit of a mute point when you consider the empty level design, but at least the distant planets and the post-processing effects look great.
When it’s all said and done, The Ultimate Theory of Gravity is a pretty interesting game, but it lacks the spark needed to keep you playing for longer than a few minutes. Thus, it’s a good starting point, but it needs more than that to make a name for itself.
