The Curse of Kaumaha 2 Demo
Try to escape a dangerous island in this retro platformer featuring a variety of enemies and traps #Kaumaha Curse #Arcade Platformer #Retro Sidescroller #Kaumaha #Curse #Platformer
The jungle is a dangerous place, even under normal circumstances. The temperatures are always too high, as is air humidity, which makes it difficult to sweat and cool off properly. To make matters worse, jungles are usually populated by all kinds of insects and wild animals, most of which have evolved with all the necessary tools to make your life difficult.
The Curse of Kaumaha 2 is a game in which things are even worse, considering the fact that the jungle you have to traverse is cursed as well. Unfortunately, the game itself lacks any kind of fun factor, although that is mostly because it’s a short demo presenting a few of the gameplay mechanics. On the other hand, it’s a bit weird to release something so unfinished, even for an indie production.
As such, you can barely tell if there’s a story going on or not, given the fact that you are thrown directly into the middle of the action. The main character appears to be some kind of furry brown ball with big eyes, with no name or clue about what he or she is after. It doesn’t seem to have any kind of special abilities, other than the fact that it can jump relatively high and spin while doing so.
The most annoying fact about the game is that the enemies do not seem to function, because you can just walk through them without receiving any kind of damage. There are some candles that can be used to kill them, although there’s no real point in doing so. Hence, the fact that they are patrolling every-which-way throughout the short demo level makes no sense whatsoever.
Speaking of which, the level design is not bad at all, because there are some reasonably tricky sections you need to pay attention to in order to pass successfully. On the other hand, there are only like two minutes of gameplay included anyway, so it’s difficult to call this a plus. Other than that, the graphics are old-school and the sound effects are decent, although you don’t get to enjoy them for too long.
All things considered, The Curse of Kaumaha 2 is not a bad game, it’s just too short to be worth the bother. Hence, even if the controls feel smooth and the visual style is quite cozy, you need more to form be able to enjoy the experience.
