Although hacking is portrayed to be quite exciting in movies, it’s more of a waiting game than anything else. Taking advantage of exploits and injecting malicious code into the target computer requires patience and determination, as well as significantly less wild typing than what you see in movies. On the other hand, it would be quite boring if all you saw was a guy waiting for his brute force attack to succeed.
Terminull is a racing game in which you are actually trying to control a virus as it infiltrates a variety of vital servers. The task is to move as quickly as possible and score as many points as you can along the way, with the purpose of unlocking more tracks and more vehicles. There are no opponents to compete against, but it is important that you pay attention to the track to avoid mishaps.
Each vehicle has different characteristics, but you need to gather enough points in order to unlock them. On the other hand, every “virus” pretty much looks the same, so the only differences come in the form of performance parameters. Even the tracks have a tendency to blend into each other, but given the fact that this is still very early in the development phase, things could change for the better in the future.
The gameplay is pretty straightforward, although there are some unique gimmicks you have to be familiar with. First, you are rewarded points based on how fast you complete a run, and these points are then multiplied with the current multiplier. You can hurt this multiplier by jumping off the track, although it also shrinks together with the total time you have left.
As far as the visual quality is concerned, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the game looks pretty simple and basic in most regards. However, the special effects make everything better, as does the perpetual darkness that surrounds the tracks. It would be nice to have a bit more detail when it comes to the tracks, but as mentioned before, there’s plenty of time for that.
Terminull has the potential to turn into quite the success with the crowds, as long as the developer keeps adding more content. The tracks need to be more exciting, and it also feels like the vehicle moves a little bit too slow for a racing game.
