Tempo

The environment is full of interesting things all around us, not to mention the fact that it still holds a lot of secrets. On the other hand, most of these secrets are pretty mundane and simple, so it’s pretty much impossible to stumble upon some kind of magic. Hence, this is why video games can be so intriguing and engaging when it comes to the kind of worlds they feature.

Tempo is a top-down adventure game in which your goal is to find your way through a strange world and use the day/night cycle to solve puzzles. The gameplay is actually unique, at least in some regards, which means that it should prove to be a challenge for almost every puzzle fan. On the other hand, the difficulty level is not that high, at least not after you figure out how everything works.

In essence, you are free to explore a pretty open environment, but there are blocked paths and rivers that cannot be crossed without a bridge of some sort. Your character has the power to control the passage of time, on the other hand, although it’s also possible to just wait around and watch the cycle work its magic on its own, but that takes too much time.

Most of the puzzles require you to wait for a specific time in the day in order for something to be revealed to you, such as a hidden bridge. Others challenge you to use shadows to your advantage and manipulate light in such a way as to be of use. While the puzzles are not very complicated as a whole, they do require a bit of tinkering sometimes, depending on your experience in the genre.

The graphics are nothing out of the ordinary either, although it would have been nice to see a little bit more detail sometimes. The bland colors can become repetitive and annoying after a while, depending on your tolerance. Even so, the world looks pretty inviting sometimes, especially since you are free to have as many sunsets as you want.

All things considered, Tempo is obviously not able to keep you occupied for more than a few minutes, but it can make those minutes very pleasant. Hence, as long as you can get past that and the simple graphics, the game is more than enjoyable if you pick it up at the right time.
