Telepathy

People have always dreamed of being able to control things with their minds, and there are many myths and legends regarding this concept. There are rumors that governments around the world toyed with the idea, the most famous of which is the MKULTRA project conducted by CIA. Naturally, there is no proof that it’s possible to do such things.

Telepathy is a fairly simple puzzle game in which you have to move a box around treacherous levels and use it to activate switches. You move the said box using your character’s mind powers, and the operation is fairly delicate and imprecise. However, this causes a lot of frustration, especially since there is no way to predict the behavior of your powers.

In short, the goal is to activate switches in order to clear the path for other creatures in the level, creatures that are then trapped in cages. However, you have to use the mouse to move the box, and the operation is far from precise. To make things worse, there are all sorts of spikes and moving obstacles you have to avoid, which is easier said than done.

Even the slightest touch causes a full level restart, so it’s important to avoid everything that looks dangerous. Since you barely have any control over the box’s movements, this is especially difficult to achieve, which can cause a lot of frustration. It’s one thing to deal with tough levels, but it’s a whole other thing to never have proper control over your actions.

Lastly, the level design is a bit of a letdown too, since most of the stages are very similar to each other, with minor differences. Extra spikes and traps do not really make you feel like you are progressing, so boredom makes its presence known from early on. The graphics are rather basic as well, although this is the least of the game’s problems.

In the end, Telepathy could easily achieve a lot more if the mechanics were a bit more refined, but the lack of control over the character’s powers is very annoying. Thus, it’s difficult to keep playing for very long.
