Survius Early Access

Survival games are quite hot at the moment, especially when it comes to zombie flicks and sandbox scenarios that allow the players to make up their own adventures. Granted, innovation is not the main objective most of the time, which is a bit of a bummer. Given the lack of a proper story and the fact that the worlds are randomly generated most of the time, it’s very important to provide players with engaging gameplay mechanics.

Survius is a third-person survival game with multiplayer and an open world that’s awaiting explorers and dedicated players to get the most out of it. However, there’s nothing special about the game when it comes to mechanics or gameplay ideas, which means that it’s tough to get excited about something most people are already sick of, such as basic crafting options and multiplayer.

The island itself is empty and unimpressive as well, even if it’s quite large. Although there’s the occasional building you can stumble upon, most of it is just a mass of barren land with trees growing every-which-way. For a game that technically encourages exploration, this is not a very good thing, especially since there’s no wildlife either.

It must be mentioned that the game is in early access at the moment, however, so it’s natural that it lacks content and it’s not very polished. On the other hand, it’s difficult to see a reason to keep playing and wait for improvements, so maybe the developer should have released the game when it had something real to offer the players. Hence, the crafting is extremely basic, and there are all sorts of bugs that prevent you from gather resources sometimes.

As for the graphics, they do not impress in any way, but that’s the least of the game’s problems at the moment. It would be nice to see better textures and more tree models to prevent the map from looking so repetitive, but the gameplay is much more important at this point. Thus, visual improvements are indeed needed, but there are other issues waiting in line.

In the end, Survius is not the kind of game you want to try in its current state, but a lot can change during the development period. Thus, you’d better wait a bit for more content to be added before you give it a shot, otherwise you might not want to do so later on.
