Pokemon is still one of the most popular cartoons around the world, even if it was released over two decades ago. There are countless spinoffs, movies and video games that allow the fans to bask in the glorious fantasy universe, yet there’s always room for more. Hence, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to see yet more video games trying to elbow their way into the niche.

Super Pokemon Eevee Edition is an open world role-playing game with retro graphics in which you play the role of a young boy trying to become a Pokemon master and save the world at the same time. Although it looks fairly basic at first, the game packs quite the hefty collection features, as well as engaging gameplay mechanics and enough content to keep you busy for a long time.

As the name implies, the first and most important Pokemon you get to play with is Eevee. However, it’s not your typical Eevee, because this one has special powers that allow him to change between evolutions and even return to his original form. Not only that, but you can take advantage of this during battle, which allows you to successfully counter most Pokemon types without having to call new ones to your aid.

Speaking of which, the battle system is designed to be like in the Final Fantasy series, which means that it’s active and turn-based at the same time. Thus, each character makes a move, but you do not have to wait for the opponent to make his before striking again. The only thing holding you back is the amount of energy you have in order to perform the attacks and cast your Pokemon’s special abilities.

Other than the battles, the game features an open world and quite a generous environment that can be explored. Some zones are restricted by annoying walls, but it still feels like you are in control of your journey. Not only that, but you can also use a phone and ride a bicycle in order to move quicker across the map. The graphics are retro, which should be perfect if you want to relive the good old times.

All things considered, Super Pokemon Eevee Edition is certainly a very polished game, even if it’s a fan production with no professionals involved in its development. It features some nice mechanics and an intriguing storyline.
