Platformers are usually designed to be challenging and tough, which is why single player is the way to go. However, you may have wondered what it would be like to cooperate with other people in order to overcome the obstacles. Thankfully, the game at hand answers that question and provides you with the chance to enjoy a multiplayer platformer for a change.

StarBreak is a 2D platformer with MMO elements and fast-paced gameplay mechanics, in which your role is to make it to the end of each level and kill everything along the way. The MMO elements resume to the fact that you have to cooperate with other players in order to bring down the tougher monsters, although you can pretty much ignore everyone else in the meantime.

There’s not much of a story to talk about, but you won’t have time to listen to tales anyway. You can choose between multiple characters, on the other hand, even if only one of them is accessible in the beginning. The others are unlocked as you manage to gain points, and each one of them comes with special skills, plus the ability to equip unique weapons and items.

One of the really important elements you have to remember is that any death is final, which basically translates to a total loss of items. Everything you win is lost once you die, so you should see players trying a lot harder not to die than in a regular MMO. On the other hand, this mechanic might scare away casual players, especially since it takes quite a bit of time to win everything back.

The challenge is the reason so many people are giving the game a try, however, because it’s much more exciting to participate in a raid when you know that you might end up with nothing in the end. Thankfully, at least you can only blame yourself for dying, because the controls are very smooth and responsive. You might miss a few traps because the other players clutter the screen, but it’s not usually a problem.

In the end, StarBreak is certainly worth a try from every platformer fan, especially if you are up for a challenge. Moreover, the MMO elements have the potential to keep you engaged for longer than usual.
