Sonic Cyan Hexagon
Explore a three-dimensional world as you see fit while enjoying the soundtrack in this artsy game #Music game #Exploration game #Electronic music #Music #Explore #Exploration
Music is difficult to put into words sometimes, probably because each individual perceives it differently. Although one can be objective in regards to things like rhythm, melody and bassline, whether the music itself is good or not depends on the person doing the listening. However, it’s much easier to describe music in a visual way, which is what the game at hand tries to do.
Sonic Cyan Hexagon is a surreal experience in which you get to enjoy a visual trip and a piece of electronic music at the same time. There are no actual objectives or missions to worry about, which means that you are free to explore the world as you see fit. However, the lack of a purpose can also cause you to get rather bored after a while, especially since the selection of songs is limited as of right now.
The world you get to explore is designed to be in tune with the mood of the song, which in this case happens to be a cold landscape with a few hexagons thrown in there for good measure. Unfortunately, there’s nothing too exciting or inspiring about the environment, which means that you’ll quickly learn where everything is and get bored in the next couple of minutes.
The only other thing you can do is fly through a couple of colored stones, because some of them have the power to change the entire landscape. Granted, it’s only the colors that change, so the environment remains the same, but it’s nice to see a bit of change every once in awhile. The controls are a tad slow as well, although it would appear that there’s no need for precision anyway.
As far as the graphics are concerned, the actual visual quality is nothing to stand in awe of, but everything looks surreal enough for it not to matter. It can be a tad bothersome to the eye, what with all the strange shapes and weird colors, but it’s not the type of game you play for hours anyway. In fact, the song is rather short at the moment, even if it’s quite good.
Although Sonic Cyan Hexagon is not much to look at right now, the idea has room to grow, and this can certainly turn into something a bit more exquisite. However, it needs some work before that can happen.
