Shadow Slug Solid Demo
Kill Nazi soldiers and explore a variety of dangerous levels in this mash-up between two popular series #Sonic the Hedgehog #Metal Slug #Metal Solid Gear #Shadow #Hedgehog #MGS
Some of the most notorious franchises out there got to be so beloved thanks to the consistency of the episodes in the series, not to mention the unique gameplay mechanics that made the titles so easily recognizable. As such, almost every gamer is familiar with Solid Snake, the protagonist of the Metal Gear Solid franchise, because of the brilliant gadgets he always seems to have on him.
Shadow Slug Solid tries to mix the brilliant elements seen in MGS with a bit of Metal Slug and a hedgehog as the main character, which looks a lot like Sonic as well. Hence, you’ve got three of the most popular franchises out there all mashed into one, so there are very few chances for this to go wrong. However, the lack of polishing is quite obvious, and you can tell that some of the portions were rushed during development.
To begin with, the story is practically non-existent and you just spawn on a classic 2D platforming level, featuring a bit of green, some brown, and some blue, which is actually the water. Next, you have to get to the other end of the stage, while surviving the constant onslaught of enemies that attempt to stop you. With the help of a few guns and some power-ups, your chances of making it out alive should increase significantly.
Just like in Metal Slug, you might have a bit of a hard time getting used to the sometimes brutal difficulty level. The most annoying of all are the vehicles that endlessly spawn enemy soldiers, which means that your only solution is to kill one wave and try to get away as fast as possible after that. It’s easier said than done, on the other hand, especially on a keyboard.
From a technical point of view, the 2D graphics certainly won’t impress the current generation of gamers, but they are pretty enough to remind you of a simpler era. Hence, everything may be in low resolution and quite pixelated, but the levels sort of make sense, and there are usually multiple hidden spots you can find along the way, in order to acquire bonuses.
In the end, Shadow Slug Solid may be a tad too difficult for everyone to enjoy, but it’s got charisma and you might spend a bit of time trying to beat it, just out of spite. However, this is obviously not an original product, so you might have a difficult time getting remembering it after you are done with it.
