Sea Of Legends
Explore a world full of pirates and leave your mark on it in this open world RPG with turn-based combat. #Role-playing game #Open world #Action RPG #Role play #Quest #Pirate
Modern pirates carry automatic weapons, have no wooden legs of colorful parrots on their shoulders, and they certainly do not bury chests of gold on deserted islands. Hence, they’re not suitable for a humorous movie series featuring A-listers and a huge budget, which is why they are mostly ignored and considered extinct by most people.
Sea Of Legends is an open world RPG in which you play the role of a guy trying to make a living by undertaking a variety of dangerous missions. Since the game is all about pirates and the sea, it’s only natural that you’ll fight some of them as well, and there are actually bounties that allow you to turn in their heads for rewards. On the other hand, the gameplay can be a tad repetitive.
To begin with, the story is rather shaky and thin, in the sense that you never really know what’s going on, or where the underlying plotline leads. There might not even be one, in fact, seeing how you just hop from mission to mission, acquiring companions along the way. Whether you are required to explore a certain part of the world, or just kill a pirate and return with his head, the quests are not very well tied together.
Once you run into an enemy, the combat starts and you have a few options at your disposal. A regular attack can work just fine in most cases, but you can also employ special abilities and take your foes by surprise. Obviously, each character under your command has different skills and abilities, but they usually reduce to how much damage they deal. It’s also worth noting that there are a few bugs that may prevent you from entering combat mode, even though the enemies deliver their “It’s on” lines.
Since the game is designed in RPG Maker, you shouldn’t expect too much from the graphics, and that’s just fine in normal circumstances. In this case, although the level design is quite nice and detailed, you might be disappointed in the fact that the assets are the default ones that come with RPG Maker. Original artwork is important, especially for a game that aims for Steam Greenlight.
Sea Of Legends could turn into something worthwhile with enough work and dedication, but it’s not quite there yet. Besides original artwork, it also needs patches to fix some bugs, and maybe a stronger storyline that doesn’t get pushed into the background from the first few minutes.
Note: You can vote for the game on its official Steam Greenlight page.
