Luck games are not exactly great most of the time, but they can be very addictive if you have the right type of personality. Hence, this is why gambling is such a big problem for people. On the other hand, most video games do not require you to keep adding money to your account in order to keep playing, at least not until the free-to-play market developed into what it is today.
RoShamBo is a game of rock, paper, scissors in which you control a fighter that must defeat another in an arena, in order to gain experience and better gear. The formula is as simple as it sounds, yet it can still be very engaging under the right circumstances. Naturally, the flaw is that the game could become repetitive in a rush, especially if you are not excited about new items and characters.
The gameplay revolves around the classic rules of rock, paper, scissors, which means that you must choose one at the beginning of each round and hope that the other player loses. Your character delivers a punch for every won round, so the goal is to bring the enemy’s HP to zero. There’s little to no skill involved in the process, so you rarely feel good about yourself after a victory.
The only thing that sort of changes the pace of the game is the fact that you can use special abilities and potions to get out of sticky situations. It’s still mandatory that you win the rock, paper, scissors round for these abilities to have any effect, but at least you can deal massive damage with one hit and have a fighting chance after a few lost rounds.
Naturally, you can improve your character by increasing his or her stats after each gained level, but it’s also possible to equip various items you loot off fallen enemies. These items provide you with a few bonuses as well, but nothing too exciting. As you might expect, it’s also possible to use real money in order to purchase better characters without having to work too much.
In the end, RoShamBo is not a bad game, but it doesn’t really have a purpose after you put ten minutes of effort into it. You can pay and see everything there is to see, or you can grind for a few days just to become the best at rock, paper, scissors, which is not a very exciting prospect.
