Sometimes even the simplest games can have a tremendous effect on your mood, especially if they are jolly enough to influence your state of mind. Hence, it’s great to know that you can turn on your computer or your tablet and just brighten your day in the span of a few minutes. Granted, they can also have the reverse effect sometimes, depending on what their goal is.

Rainbow Sword is a fun action-adventure game in which you play the role of a jolly cloud trying to save the world from darkness. The game is not very complex when it comes to gameplay mechanics and the underlying concept, but it can be very challenging, even if there are times when this is due to various design flaws or bad decisions on behalf of the developer.

There’s even a story to keep you engaged and provide you with a purpose. As it happens, it all starts when the sky is starting to turn dark from all the storm clouds that are rushing in and blocking the sun. Moontoot Macleod is a white cloud that decides to do something about it, which is why she takes the Rainbow Sword with her and proceeds to attack the nasty storm clouds.

As mentioned before, not everything works like it should, which is especially true for the gameplay. Hence, the combat is a bit too imprecise and annoying, not to mention the fact that it’s also pretty difficult to avoid getting hit sometimes. On top of that, you move between levels without loading screens, but the enemies respawn instantly if you decide to go back or you want to retrace your steps in order to find a better route.

All is relatively well in the graphics department, at least when it comes to animations and enemy design. However, the levels are rather boring and gray, even if that’s the whole point, in a way. It gets boring to explore the same landscapes over and over again, especially when they are also full of enemies five seconds after you have already cleared them once.

In the end, Rainbow Sword could have been a lot more fun and enjoyable, but it’s a tad too repetitive to keep you busy for longer than a few minutes. On the other hand, at least the cute cloud might brighten your day a little bit.
