Sometimes even the simplest ideas can make waves if they are presented in a fresh set of clothes, which happens to be the case with many indie games. Hence, even if they don’t present you with original concepts or engaging new universes, at least you get a polished version of something that you’ve played before. There’s always a way to reimagine something and make the experience feel fresh.
Prisma Warp is a fast-paced shoot ‘em up in which your only goal is to make it to the end of each stage and survive the constant onslaught of enemies that try to obliterate your ship. Naturally, this is the same formula seen in basically every shoot ‘em up ever released, but that doesn’t mean Prisma Warp becomes boring from the first minutes of gameplay. In fact, it’s a pretty engaging game.
To begin with, your ship has two firing modes, depending on whether you want to fire fast projectiles and hit a lot of enemies in a short period of time, or you want to neutralize a larger target using your bombs. Obviously, the latter come in limited supply, which means that you cannot abuse bombs and you have to keep them for when things get serious.
Unfortunately, nothing really changes throughout the game when it comes to gameplay, which is a bit of an issue. The environments stay the same and the enemies get stronger, not to mention the fact that the levels also feel very short. Granted, it’s pretty difficult to survive after a point, but that’s not necessarily fun if you are not rewarded for your progress with new ships or weapons.
Hence, the game needs more variety of it wants to attract a larger audience. Right now, the lack of content cannot keep players engaged for more than a few minutes, even if the boss fights are pretty exciting. The graphics are nothing out of the ordinary either, especially when it comes to ship design and the background artwork.
In the end, Prisma Warp certainly has potential, but right now it’s too early to recommend it to the hardcore fans of the genre. However, things can easily be fixed by adding more content and ways to destroy your enemies, not to mention more ships and better level design.
