Arcade games can be easily considered the ancestors of modern-day gaming. Alas, the glory days of arcades have long passed, but the hint of nostalgia is still present in the fact that most of the popular titles are now featured as videogames for the modern consoles. Anyone who's been to an arcade can describe it mostly using the words "flashy" or "colorful," and that's exactly how you would describe Pinball Arcade's graphics. Everything is rendered in beautiful, high-quality 3D while still managing to be relatively easy on your PC's system resources, even when all the lights and particles are flashing and ringing. This relative smoothness of the game is mostly achieved because pinball itself is a game where fast reaction times mean better scores.

You don't need to remember complicated key-combinations for this game, quite the opposite. The two flippers that prevent the ball from going down are easily controlled via the arrow keys, and launching the ball is done via hold down the spacebar. As the ball manages to scuttle between more and more obstacles, you eventually accumulate a higher score that will be saved to your profile for others to see.

From a gameplay point of view, Pinball Arcade doesn't bring anything new to the table, which is probably for the best, since pinball itself is beautiful and addictive precisely because it is so simple. The 3D graphics are another reason why this title deserves a place in your digital library, especially if you grew up having fun at the local arcade.
