NYNE Demo
Explore a terrifying landscape and try to keep your composure as monsters attack you from every direction #Horror FPS #First-person shooter #Scary game #Fps #Shooter #Horror
The horror genre is not for everyone, because if the game is designed well, it can certainly cause a lot of discomfort and even some nightmares. Obviously, they are just video games and you quickly forget about all of it, but the thrill of the experience is still worth the trouble and there are plenty of good examples out there.
NYNE is not exactly a revolution in any regard, given the fact that it doesn’t feature a story, characters, or an explanation for the events unfolding on the screen. Even so, not much is going on anyway, since all you have to do is walk around and kill a few creatures here and there, while making your way through the copy-pasted levels.
In essence, the main purpose is to keep your ‘fear meter’ from filling up. This happens if you stare at monsters for too long and it drains if you kill the said monsters. However, your accuracy is affected by the fear, which means that it is increasingly more difficult to aim properly. While this might sound exciting on paper, the actual gameplay is incredibly straightforward and boring, because the monsters are small and mostly featureless.
To create the proper atmosphere, the game tries to utilize some scary sound effects, which end up being annoying and repetitive instead. The music is also badly chosen for the genre, since it doesn’t inspire anything but boredom. There are obviously no voices involved at all, because you do not actually get to meet other characters or anything.
As far as the graphics are concerned, the environments are usually too dark to make anything of them, while the models and the textures are pretty poor as well. Not only that, but the creatures you meet along the way are not scary at all, mostly because they are not detailed enough to inspire fear. Each room you visit looks almost the same, because only a handful of textures was utilized to design of the levels.
All things considered, NYNE is barely a video game anyway, considering the fact that it’s an alpha version and not a lot of work went into it. Hence, unless you are curious how an early version of a wannabe horror game looks like, you can choose one of the already established classics out there instead.
