Mountain Climb

Fast-paced platformers require concentration and nerves of steel, otherwise frustration gets the best of you. Difficult jumps, tricky enemies and a plethora of traps littering the way are just some of the elements you have to endure in order to get to the end of most platformers. However, people are still buying them like crazy, which is why developers keep creating new ones on a regular basis.
Mountain Climb is not a very difficult game, since it both looks and plays like something designed in a few days. That actually happens to be the case, so you shouldn’t expect more anyway. In short, you play the role of a nondescript character that must climb his way to the top of a mountain, using nothing but well-timed jumps and as much haste as possible.
While there are no double jumps, you can abuse the wall jump gimmick, otherwise some portions are not accessible at all. On the other hand, this makes things way too easy, since there is no actual difficulty curve to talk about. As long as you understand how wall jumping works, it shouldn’t take you more than two minutes to reach the peak.
There are also enemies you have to watch out for, even if they are mostly harmless. They just crawl around on a predefined path, and you get damage if you happen to touch them by accident. You have plenty of hit points to resist multiple encounters with enemies, however, especially when you consider the fact that you’ll only run into a handful of them along the way.
Lastly, it would appear that the levels go on forever and that they are somewhat randomized, but that is hardly the case. There seems to be just one stage that changes very slightly between plays. As mentioned before, this is more of a jam game and an experiment than anything else, so it’s only natural that it doesn’t have too much content.
Although Mountain Climb is not very original, the concept is always attractive to gamers, especially if it’s done right. Thus, with a bit more work in the level design department and maybe a few extra enemies, the game could be quite exciting and challenging.
