Moirai

Powerful stories stick with people for a very long time, especially those that manage to surprise them with something. A twisted end that comes out of nowhere is always liable to make some waves, regardless of whether it’s a book, movie or a video game. In fact, it doesn’t even matter how long or how short the story is as long as it ends with something exciting and unexpected.

Moirai is a first-person adventure game in which you play the role of a peasant trying to help his village by finding a girl who went missing a while ago. However, things get pretty interesting along the way, and it turns out that there’s more to the story than you might believe at first. The big blow comes at the end, when a single twist makes the story a lot more interesting and memorable.

However, the road to the end is pretty fun as well, even if the game is very simple in regards to graphics and gameplay. In fact, besides walking around and examining certain objects there’s not a lot you can do, which might be a tad boring. Thankfully, at least the atmosphere and the story are interesting enough to keep you playing until the end.

As mentioned before, the gameplay is about as basic as it gets, which means that you do not have an inventory, a map or anything else. The lack of a map might prove a tad annoying when you enter the mine, because you have to remember how to navigate the dark corridors, but there are not so many of them anyway. You can easily find your way back by just walking for thirty seconds or so.

The same can be said about the graphics, which are very old-school and quite flat. In fact, there are no 3D objects anywhere in the game, and that’s a tad strange for a game that features a first-person perspective. However, it’s not such a big impediment, even if it’s weird to walk around in 3D when everything features one less dimension.

All things considered, Moirai is a very intriguing game, even if it doesn’t seem so at first. Hence, if you stick with it until the end, you might enjoy a very pleasant surprise.
