Flying a helicopter is about as difficult as it can get in terms of coordination and attention, so it’s difficult to translate this into a fun video game. On the other hand, arcade gameplay mechanics can make everything more engaging and easier to deal with, especially if the players can concentrate on the action instead. Hence, there are plenty of interesting helicopter games out there, most of which revolve around shooting things.

Megacitycopter is an arcade game in which you get to fly around a big map and admire the view, while also completing a few missions at your own leisure. The project is far from complete at this point, which means that there’s not much to do other than fly around the city and admire the landscapes There are a few tasks you can stumble upon even now and again, but most of them are not that interesting anyway.

Exploration is your main activity, and the map is big enough to keep you engaged for a while, but there’s not much happening on it. The gameplay is a bit too stiff and slow too, and the controls are not particularly snappy either. Hence, sometimes it can be too annoying to avoid buildings or land anywhere, although this part can be refined in future versions as well.

You can find a couple of upgrades if you search through the city, most of which make your helicopter easier to handle or faster. It takes quite a while to find anything useful, on the other hand, at least in the demo at hand, so the search is not very fruitful most of the time. You can also race other helicopters and push your skills to the limits if you feel like it.

The graphics are nothing too exciting either, but they are certainly not an eyesore either. It takes a while to get used to the low-resolution textures, but after a while they actually look nice as a whole. As mentioned before, the controls are not particularly refined, especially in terms of steering, but you can get better with enough practice.

All things considered, Megacitycopter should improve with every update, given the fact that right now it’s barely in early Alpha. Hence, better controls and more things to do are required in the future, plus slightly more polished mechanics and better graphics.
